Celebrating 17 years of service to Brunswick County!


CIS Fast Facts
2010-2011  
  • 512 one-on-one community volunteer tutors/mentors served 1,462 students.
  • 226 Adopt A School partnerships provided $143,455 in-kind donations.
  • 479 students (K-5) received services in After School and Summer Camp programs; 69 students performing below grade level received one-on-one/small group tutoring through after school services.
  • 185 first-offenders successfully completed sentences in Teen Court or Peer Court.
  • 145 students from Cedar Grove Middle, Leland Middle, Shallotte Middle and Waccamaw Schools (grades 6-8) were case managed and served through the Action for Success program.
  • Over 2,800 children and parents were served through agency partnerships and services at two Family Resource Centers.
  • 281 adults and children participated in the Parenting Education Program.
  • Twenty-two $1,000 CIS Scholarships were awarded to graduating seniors.

Why invest in CIS? An Economic Impact Study conducted by UNCW made the following key observations related to the impact of CIS on Brunswick County:  
  • CIS activities attract $6 in wages and profits per dollar of public support.
  • CIS activities attract $5.45 in grant support for every dollar of public support.
  • Brunswick County juvenile courts saved $2000 per case ($362,000+) by diverting offenders to Teen and Peer Courts.
